Going Green

Edition: 10/29/2004

Magnolia and jacaranda trees will bloom along Bronson and Fourth avenues, thanks to the efforts of a local beautification committee and the city’s Trees for a Green L.A. program.

In October, the Wilshire Park Association hosted a tree-planting event on the 800 and 900 blocks of Bronson Avenue, as well as the 900 block of Fourth Avenue.

More than 20 volunteers showed up to dig, plant, fertilize and water 17 trees.

Those leading the effort were beautification committee chair Jennifer-Nairn Smith, who circulated petitions along with Susie Kang and Bob Clark.

Marita Sheeran and Kirsten Carbone organized the event.

More volunteers were Jorge Peleaz, Peter Majewski, Jeff Sperber, and Arthur and Paula Greenspan.

Others who supported the cause were Mary Ann Austin, Chris Anderson and Tom Gibbons.

Children who assisted included Grace and Claire Majewski, Eva Hilton, Molly and Zach Greenspan, Isadora and Christopher Gere and Julian and Melina Garcia.

Wilshire Park president Liz Morehead provided a long picnic table in front of her house for a post-planting party.

Carolyn Ramsay, president of the Windsor Square Association, took photographs of the planting in progress.
